One couldn't expect more from the second round of the ACP Golden Classic, with two decided games and one adjournment. After no less than two hours of play the game started to heat up with sacrifises over the board. Wesley So was the first player to finish his game with a win over Nepomniachtchi, showing good technique in a bishop endgame. They were followed by Sutovsky, who managed to execute a well organized attack against Baadur Jobava, who played in a quite provocative style. The third game between Vocaturo and Almasi lasted nearly 5 hours and was finally adjourned (the organizers then added that the draw was agreed during the final of the Footbal World Cup). After today there are two leaders with 1,5 points: So and Sutovsky, with a bunch of players nearly following.
Two decisive results and an adjourned game
Yuri Garrett making the opening of the second round with Gianfranco Baraldi, former middle-distance runner and winner of 9 Italian championships.
Ian Nepomniachtchi - Wesley So (0-1)
Ian Nepomniachtchi: "The results shows it all. Basically the game was over after 20 moves because I made 5-6 bad moves in a row and then I had no chance to get the initiative. The endgame is just a matter of technique."
Wesley So: "No more thinking about the game. I am just happy that I won and now it is time to think in the following games".
Emil Sutovsky - Baadur Jobava (1-0)
Baadur Jobava pressing the clock after making a move against Emil Sutovsky.
Baadur Jobava: "I was optimistic and thought I was better after Rg8. I just missed the niced idea of e6."
Emil Sutovsky: "My opponent played a very provocative line. The position was quite equal but then my opponent made some innacuracies. He could played 0-0 and it is a forced draw but he tried to press for the win and consequently let me find the nice move e6, which is actually winning."
Daniele Vocaturo - Zoltan Almasi (Adjourned Game-agreed to a draw during the final of the football World Cup)
Daniele Vocaturo and Zoltan Almasi before the start of the 2nd game.
Zoltan Almasi: "He had a deep preparation of the opening and I was forced to find every move over the board. Over all, I think my choice of sacrificing the quality was a good practical reason".
Daniele Vocaturo: "I think the exchange sacrifice that my opponent did was one of the fewest ways to keep the fight and a very good practical choice. I think I have an advantatge but from the practical point of view I think the position is equal."
